Mindfulness is a practice which is based on paying attention to the real NOW.

Mindfulness has been established in multiple ancient traditions (including Buddhism and Hinduism among others), but has been integrated into Clinical psychology and psychiatry since the 1970s.

The basic concept of mindfulness is that it helps you to see your thoughts and emotions will come and go – and that they won’t mean the end of the world.

Some simple mindfulness actions that you can take:

  • Count your breath in and count your breath out.

  • Pay attention to the feeling of breathing in and out.

  • When thoughts, emotions, feelings and sounds happen, just notice that they happen and then let them go.

  • Don’t focus on them, put your attention back to your breathing.

When you are doing something, pay attention to your breath and to the feeling of what you’re doing – let your thoughts come and go
