The ability to deal with and learn from challenges is often called “resilience”.
Resilience is basically the ability to bounce back from adversity or challenges. Learning to bounce back and bounce forward is an important skill for coping with life’s obstacles (it is especially important during your time in higher education).
The concept of resilience is based on your brain’s ability to modify itself based your internal and external experiences (“neuronal plasticity”).
Some things that you can do to help develop resilience include:
Celebrating your successes
It’s easy to lose sight of all the good things you are doing. More guidelines on this are available here.
Reflect on what you’ve experience
Journalling is useful for this process. By reflecting on things that happen to you, you can better understand how to navigate them.
Connect with people who love you
Connecting with people who have your back is a great way to help bounce back from things. Talking about what happened (& how it made you feel) and getting support from others is hugely helpful fo building resilience.
